Davison Bruce Foundation Grant Supports Homebuyer Education, Financial Empowerment for Birmingham Residents

Birmingham, Alabama — Local nonprofit Neighborhood Housing Services of Birmingham, Inc. (NHSB) is pleased to announce a recent generous grant of $10,000 from the Davison Bruce Foundation for the nonprofit’s “No Place Like Home” Housing Counseling Program which provides housing counseling, stabilization services, and homeownership education to qualifying Birmingham residents. In addition to the grant from Davison Bruce, other funders include the Wells Fargo Foundation, the Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham, and the Mike and Gillian Goodrich Foundation.

“The Davison Bruce Foundation’s crucial funding will allow us to serve over a hundred more community members,” explained Kelleigh Gamble, NHSB’s Executive Director. “Buying a home is a complicated process that can quickly become overwhelming. Our HUD-certified counselors can help with everything from managing credit and finding the right lender to taking advantage of state and federal down-payment assistance programs. We are here to help!”

NHSB’s mission is to make strategic investments in both people and real estate in Jefferson County communities that are predominantly Black and low-income. The nonprofit also helps with foreclosure prevention, home maintenance, and weatherization improvements for community members who already own their own home.

Funding that like that provided by Davison Bruce is enabling NHSB to host a free, virtual Homebuyer Workshop on September 18, 2021, designed to help families better understand the home buying process and how to take next steps toward homeownership. Free tickets are available via EventBrite or by contacting NHSB at (205) 328-4292 or [email protected]
