The City of Birmingham has released a 23-page report outlining more than $141 million in federal pandemic relief funds dedicated to strengthening neighborhoods, improving public safety, and supporting families, workers, and small businesses. The funding supports 196 local projects aligned with Mayor Randall Woodfin’s Blueprint Birmingham plan and shared priorities of the Birmingham City Council, with a focus on communities disproportionately impacted by COVID-19. The NHSB is one numerous organizations slated to get funds as a part of the overall investments in transportation improvements, safer and healthier neighborhoods, and affordable housing developments. Additional allocations target community violence prevention, blight removal, and stormwater management upgrades.
The plan also directs resources toward long-term economic stability, including education, job training and unemployment reduction, employee retention, and small business and nonprofit support.
