About Neighborhood Housing Services

For over 40 years, Neighborhood Housing Services of Birmingham, Inc. (NHSB) has worked to give families the tools they need to emerge from poverty and achieve financial stability.

Our goal is to help stabilize urban neighborhoods in the City of Birmingham and surrounding areas by promoting personal financial empowerment and homeownership. We offer safe, affordable housing options for working families whose household income is too much to qualify for subsidized housing, but do not earn enough to afford housing at current market rates.

Since our founding, we have steadily expanded our service area and program offerings to ensure outcomes remain relevant to the changing needs of our clients. Today, our offerings empower individuals and families to overcome barriers to achieve their home-ownership goals:

  • Home-Buyer Education
  • Post-Purchase Education
  • Foreclosure Prevention
  • Affordable Homes & Rentals
  • Housing Rehabilitation

Our programs and offerings are constantly changing. For the most up-to-date information, if you have specific questions, or are in need of specialized help, please email us directly.

A Message From Our CEO

“We believe home is more than four walls and a roof. Home is where stability begins. It’s where families grow, memories are made, and futures take shape. When people have a safe, affordable place to call home, everything else becomes possible.

Our mission is rooted in the belief that homeownership and housing stability should be within reach for everyone. For decades, we’ve worked to remove barriers, provide education, and create opportunities that strengthen our community from the ground up.

Home changes everything. And together, we’re building a Birmingham where everyone has the opportunity to experience that truth.”
