About Our Healthy Housing Initiative

The Healthy Housing Initiative (HHI) provides housing rehabilitation, energy-related upgrades, and weatherization repairs and improvements for low-income homeowners (many of whom are seniors) living in our Birmingham communities.

Eligible homeowners receive repairs to improve the condition of their home and its major systems including but not limited:

  • Roofs

  • HVAC Systems

  • Electrical and Plumbing

  • Structural Repairs

  • Insulation & Weatherization

NHSB staff works with individuals to assess and quickly serve those with the greatest needs. The agency is involved every step of the way to ensure home repairs are completed and meet the highest quality standards for safety and energy efficiency. NHSB ensures repairs and upgrades are effective and efficient through rigorous energy audits conducted by a third-party entity contracted by the City of Birmingham’s Office of Community Development.
