About Our Healthy Housing Initiative
Our Healthy Housing Initiative (HHI) provides housing rehabilitation, energy-related upgrades, and weatherization repairs and improvements for low-income homeowners (many who are seniors) living in our Birmingham communities. Eligible homeowners receive repairs to improve the condition of their home and its major systems including but not limited to roofs, HVAC system, electrical, and plumbing; structural repairs; insulation and weatherization.
HHI creates safer, healthier homes for Birmingham homeowners as well as improves the quality of low-income neighborhoods, leading to increased property values and decreased health disparities.
NHSB staff works with individuals to assess and quickly serve those with the greatest needs. The agency is involved every step of the way to ensure home repairs are completed and meet the highest quality standards for safety and energy efficiency. NHSB ensures repairs and upgrades are effective and efficient through rigorous energy audits conducted by a third-party entity contracted by the City of Birmingham’s Office of Community Development.
