Philanthropy in Birmingham was already huge prior to the pandemic, but helping others became crucial over the course of the past year.
Studies have shown Birmingham is one of the most philanthropic cities in the nation, and during Covid-19, residents kept dollars flowing into nonprofits and foundations — and those organizations continued their missions.
Whether it was increasing health services by implementing Covid-19 testing, moving counseling services to online rather than in-person or providing funds to pay mortgages and rent for those who lost their jobs, Birmingham nonprofits rose to the occasion and kept residents secure.
The nonprofit leaders featured in the 2021 edition of Who’s Who in Nonprofits have succeeded during the pandemic and are ones to watch in the coming year with recovery on the horizon.
